Fairfax, VA is a great place to live! The May 2009 issue of Forbes Magazine recognized Fairfax as the third best place to live well in the United States. The Forbes article went on to cite Fairfax as an excellent place for entrepreneurs, positioning Fairfax with having the second largest number of sole proprietors in its list.

Fairfax gets its name from Lord Fairfax who was given five million acres in Northern Virginia by King Charles. This is the same Lord Fairfax that was George Washington’s mentor. (My wife, Joey Washington Saunders, the Principal Broker of our company, is George Washington’s first cousin 8 generations removed.) Fairfax is replete with history; it is seen most distinctly by looking at the original Fairfax County Courthouse.

Today, Fairfax is governed in a similar fashion to several cities in Northern Virginia. Some properties in Fairfax are in the City and County of Fairfax and other Fairfax properties are located only in Fairfax County.

The properties in the City of Fairfax are located in two jurisdictions–the City of Fairfax, which is also within the County of Fairfax. There are advantages to both the city and the county; you will enjoy living anywhere in Fairfax. There is a great website for the City of Fairfax:  www.VisitFairfax.com.

Fairfax is home to two High Schools.: W.T. Woodson, home to the Woodson Cavaliers, named after Wilbert Tucker Woodson, superintendent of the school system from 1929 to 1961. And the recently renovated Fairfax High School, home to the Fairfax Rebels. Both High Schools are strong academically and athletically.

Commuting by car to Washington is available by three great routes:  Lee Highway (Rt. 29);  Rt. 50; and Rt.66; plus the Vienna Metro. World-class restaurants and shopping are also available at Fairfax Corner and Fair Oaks Mall. Fairfax is such a large area that it is home to four outstanding Country Clubs: The Country Club of Fairfax, Penderbrook, International, and Army Navy Country Club.

There are so many wonderful amenities in Fairfax–you will love living there!
